At the admission-free market, visitors can enjoy a unique shopping experience, family-friendly events and activities and authentic food and drinks. German American Events, a subsidiary of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, has been hosting the Christkindlmarket since 1966 as an admission-free event. Since then, it has expanded to various locations in Illinois and Wisconsin and has become one of the most popular attractions for locals and tourists during winter. The Christkindlmarket is fashioned after the traditional German Christmas market in Nuremberg, Germany, with its "candy-cane" striped kiosks.
