On Monday, November 14th, the National Weather Forecast notified Illinoisans of the winter weather to come. Illinois residents are to see 2-4 inches of snow in the following hours.
Although the first day of winter is December 21st, winter really arrives this week based off of its weather forecast. This week is expected to show us more than a dusting of snow. The heaviest snow is said to make an appearance between 6 am and 8 am on Tuesday morning. The forecast shows snow Wednesday during the day and at night along with Thursday showing a slight chance of snow showers. After a large temperature drop and a forecast for snow in the coming days… it's safe to say that the winter weather is officially here to stay.
Tuesday morning is expected to be slushy conditions with temperatures hovering over the freezing mark, so motorists should be careful, especially on bridges and overpasses. The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of Northern Illinois, Northeast Illinois, and Northwest Indiana.
According to Brett Borchardt, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s office in Romeoville, Crystal Lake and the Northwest suburbs are expected to see heavier snowfall.
Borchardt shares that he thinks the snow will stick a bit throughout the day, but Joseph Nordman, City of Joliet roadways engineer, shares that he’s not expecting a whole lot of snow. Norman says his division will be prepared regardless.
Maria Castaneda, spokeswoman for the Illinois Department of Transportation, said “We aren't going to be full plowing if there’s nothing to plow.”
Many are varied in their predictions, but one thing is certain… time will tell.
Better get your snow boots and shovel out just in case!
