In the coming weeks, the Troy Community Consolidated School District 30-C will have the honor of being the first school district in Illinois to use Lion Electric battery-charged electric buses.

According to localnewstoday, “Lion Electric is the Canada-based electric company chosen by Joliet for its first electric bus manufacturing facility in the United States. Assembly line production is now up and running in Joliet. However, this particular bus for Troy was built in Canada by Lion.”

Troy School District’s new Lion Electric bus is expected to pick up students by mid-November, according to the Troy administrators.

President of the Troy School Board, Mark Griglione shares, “We just want to be part of what’s going on in the  United States and the world… We want to be energy efficient.”

He goes on to explain the number of buses currently within the Troy School District. “We have 65 buses, we’re starting with two, and we’re thrilled to do that. And over a 10-year period, we’re going to see how many we can add to that number.” Even though it may seem slow to start, this decision is still progressing the local area towards a cleaner future environment. The Will County area could benefit immensely down the road if a large enough amount of vehicles switched to electric transportation.

Jessica Shea Choksey, a writer for J.D. Power shares ways electric vehicles are better for the environment. Everything from reducing local air pollution to fewer environmental risks could be a benefit of using electric vehicles. Starting in school districts provides a good opportunity to test out the boundaries of electric transportation.

Griglione says, “We’re charging and ready to go, “And it’s going to be a really great experience for the kids because they are not going to hear the gas, and they are not going to smell the fumes and its going to be good.”

This coffee shop is a little different from cafes already opened in the Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood areas. Situated on 852 Sharp Drive in the Sharp Center off Black Road near Route 59 in Shorewood, the coffee shop, previously owned by a kickboxing studio, is close to the Bliss Hair Studio. The owners, Dana Buxbaum and her husband Shaun Tenant, mixed what they loved to create their idea of the perfect coffee shop. “I always wanted a coffee shop,” said Dana Buxbaum, “My husband and I combined our love of gaming with my vision of the coffee shop.” The coffee shop has made available bookshelves full of games such as Clue, The Serial Killer Trivia Game, Sorry, Dragoon and many more. In an interview with Patch editor, Buxbaum stated that they have “[...] about 400 games in [their] library” with family-friendly and inclusive...
Rory Richards Facebook Certain Fields From Profile Bios, Including “Religious Views”; Does Not Say Why Facebook has announced plans to remove certain fields from profile bios. Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.
