The Forest Preserve District of Will County is holding a “Geocaching Adventure” event this Sunday, November 6th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
If interested in becoming active in an interconnected game involving the outdoors, geocaching may be the hobby to choose. Geocaching is a real life treasure hunt that takes place outdoors, all around the world and never ends! The Forest Preserve District of Will county designed this program for kids, but the whole family is welcome to get in on the fun. This adventure will take place at Hickory Creek Preserve- La Porte Road Access, Mokena, starting at the Shagbark Grove Shelter and is free of cost. Participants will learn how to hide and seek geocaches leaving with various fun rewards.
A geocache can be defined by Oxford Languages as an item, typically a container holding a number of other items, that has been hidden at a location whose coordinates have been posted on the internet. In order to participate, users must have the app and/or a GPS device in order to navigate the geocaches.
It is recommended that participants use a mobile device with the geocaching.com app. If one is unable to fulfill this recommendation, staff members will have an iPad and smartphone available for shared use.
According to reconnectwithnature.org, This program will be held outdoors with up to 2 miles of hiking on uneven terrain. Be sure to check the weather forecast and wear adequate attire and shoes that can go off trail. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service should mention their request when registering, or submit a request online no later than 48 hours before the program.
If interested in this event, make sure to register by Friday, November 4th here.
