The Forest Preserve District of Will County is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Woods Walk. This self-paced hiking program runs from September 1st through November 30th. It offers individuals the chance to hike seven of the ten designated trails to earn a commemorative medallion. A new design is created every year so you won't want to miss out on the opportunity to add to your collection.

According to thetimesweekly.com, “It has been a beloved program since its inception,” said Jen Guest, the Forest Preserve’s recreation coordinator. “In those 20 years, the Forest Preserve has grown both in acres of land and miles of trails so there are more paths to choose from.”

Times Weekly Staff also reports the various trails involved. These trails consist of McKinley Woods, Hammel Woods, Hickory Creek Preserve, Kankakee Sands Preserve, Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, Goodenow Grove Nature Preserve, Prairie Bluff Preserve, Theodore Marsh, Hadley Valley, and Sugar Creek Preserve.  In addition to these ten trails, there will be an 11th bonus trail at Racoon Grove Nature Preserve due to its history in the first-ever Woods Walk Program. These lengths range from 1.5 miles to 3.47 miles

The Forest Preserve's recreation coordinator, Jen Guest states “Take in the fall scenery as you explore the preserves,” she added. “With the eleven trails offered, I hope program participants hike beloved trails again or explore some new ones.” The atmosphere of hiking this fall can offer a unique moment for individuals in their busy lives to take a step back and appreciate their environment. This provides leisurely bonding time for family and friends as well!

This year there will also be a map app that hikers can use to navigate their treks. This will be accessible through a QR code on the back page of the Woods Walk hiking guide. This guide can be found at a Forest Preserve visitor center or at ReconnectWithNature.org.

Be sure to submit your completed hiking guide submission for by Saturday, Dec. 31st.

This coffee shop is a little different from cafes already opened in the Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood areas. Situated on 852 Sharp Drive in the Sharp Center off Black Road near Route 59 in Shorewood, the coffee shop, previously owned by a kickboxing studio, is close to the Bliss Hair Studio. The owners, Dana Buxbaum and her husband Shaun Tenant, mixed what they loved to create their idea of the perfect coffee shop. “I always wanted a coffee shop,” said Dana Buxbaum, “My husband and I combined our love of gaming with my vision of the coffee shop.” The coffee shop has made available bookshelves full of games such as Clue, The Serial Killer Trivia Game, Sorry, Dragoon and many more. In an interview with Patch editor, Buxbaum stated that they have “[...] about 400 games in [their] library” with family-friendly and inclusive...

Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.
