Fraud Defendant Desires Wedding Amid Jail
Joliet IL- Ryan Reddick, a man who was shot three times by Joliet police, is now seeking the opportunity to marry his girlfriend while incarcerated. Reddick and his defense attorney Chuck Bretz formally requested for Reddick's transportation to the Will County Courthouse to get married. The Will County State's Attorney's Office accused Reddick of wire fraud and felony theft by deception for a PPP loan that granted him $21,000 in CARES ACT funds. The accusations came the same day as the request.

He's been booked into the Will County Jail since April 8 when he had a dangerous encounter with the police. He was shot three times when he fled from the passenger seat of a car while possessing a gun. The wounds were not life-threatening and he was booked into jail a day after.

Reddick is facing a plethora of charges dating back to 2020. Excluding the ones mentioned previously, Reddick is charged with one count of armed habitual criminal, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, one count of aggravated assault, one count of obstructing a peace officer, one count of possession of marijuana in a motor vehicle, one count of aggravated fleeing a peace officer, another count of aggravated assault and one count of resisting arrest.

He was initially booked into Will County jail with a bond of $500,000 but the CARES ACT fraud raised his bail to $750,000. His marital status is currently pending due to the lack of a marriage license between him and his girlfriend.

Doubled Tax Increases!?

Earlier this year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed against the gas tax increase by placing a 6 month hold on the scheduled hike. His goal was to relieve Illinois families from further financial stress. As published by My State Line reporter, John Clark, “Pritzker hoped that the initiative might ease the effects of inflation on residents.” Initially postponed to January 1 of this year, a bill coming from Springfield has proposed that the hike in gas tax be pushed back an additional 6 months.  Across the country, gas prices are decreasing; but Illinois remains number two in terms of how much its residents have to pay to fill up their tanks. With California in the lead, Illinois’ prices show no real stopping point. Without taking the increases into consideration, Illinois still comes in with second place for highest gas taxing. Illinois Policy’s assistant editor, Dylan Sharkey, reported that “gas tax hikes disproportionately hurt lower-income residents, who give up a larger percent...
