The Badger's football team isn't the only sport falling victim to COVID-19. Sources say that four UW Madison hockey players have been pulled from the lineup for Saturday's game due to a positive coronavirus case.

It is unclear which team member has contracted the virus, if any. According to a team spokesperson, the players are simply unavailable for the upcoming game.

The four members that have been removed from the lineup are forwards Roman Ahcan, Tarek Baker, Dominick Mersch, and Ty Pelton-Byce. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, "Pelton-Byce has missed the last three games because of a concussion."

With the loss of these four players, the Badgers are down to nine forwards in their arsenal for Saturday's game.

"The Badgers also have games scheduled Sunday against Arizona State, Thursday and Friday at Ohio State and Dec. 8-9 at Michigan State before a break for exams and the holidays," according to madison.com.

If a player does test positive for COVID-19, they are required to sit out for a minimum of 21 days, according to the Big Ten's policy.

Big Ten's protocols also require teams to halt practices and games for a minimum of 7 days if "a seven-day rolling average of positive tests is greater than 5% and more than 7.5% of the team's close-contact population are positive for the virus," the Wisconsin State Journal states.

The men's hockey team had a spike of COVID-19 cases in their preseason as well, resulting in a pause of activities in September.

The Badgers take on Arizona State at 7 p.m. on Saturday, December 5.

Doubled Tax Increases!?

Earlier this year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed against the gas tax increase by placing a 6 month hold on the scheduled hike. His goal was to relieve Illinois families from further financial stress. As published by My State Line reporter, John Clark, “Pritzker hoped that the initiative might ease the effects of inflation on residents.” Initially postponed to January 1 of this year, a bill coming from Springfield has proposed that the hike in gas tax be pushed back an additional 6 months.  Across the country, gas prices are decreasing; but Illinois remains number two in terms of how much its residents have to pay to fill up their tanks. With California in the lead, Illinois’ prices show no real stopping point. Without taking the increases into consideration, Illinois still comes in with second place for highest gas taxing. Illinois Policy’s assistant editor, Dylan Sharkey, reported that “gas tax hikes disproportionately hurt lower-income residents, who give up a larger percent...
