Around 10A.M. on the morning of November 7, 2020 the Troy Township Fire District was called to a structure fire in the 800 black of Phelps Lane in Shorewood. Caution of the raging fire dictated that the Troy Township Fire District call for help from the Minooka, Channahon, and Plainfield fire departments. Thankfully, the families from both damaged homes escaped without any injury.
According to Troy Fire Lt. Dan Rozak, the victims of the fire who first called authorities reported that a vehicle was on fire inside their own garage. The victims reported that massive flames and smoke was flying into the sky as the Troy fire trucks arrived. The houses are located behind the Troy Hofer Elementary School, but the property received no damage.
Rozak reported to a Joliet Patch editor, “Everyone got out safe. We upgraded the fire very fast to a box alarm. There was a heavy fire that got out of the garage and into the attic. We had to go defensive, unfortunately.” The weather on the morning of November 7, 2020 was very windy, which caused the neighboring house to receive a substantial amount of fire damage as well. However, the neighboring home is still livable despite the fire damage to the siding, Troy’s fire department claimed.
Shorewood’s Police Department and the Troy Fire district have summoned public works employees to the scene in order to tear down the house where the fire originated, because it is no long livable. Rozak also said the official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
