Shoppers in the Joliet area can expect a new place to shop soon, as a Joliet Costco location opens up this week. It is located at The Boulevard at Route 30. The new store officially opens at 8am on Wednesday November 11.

The store is likely to draw customers from all around the area and neighboring cities, such as Plainfield, Crest Hill, Channahon, Minooka, Morris, and Coal City. Although the grand opening is expected to be busy and crowded, Dave Somodi, membership manager for the new location, says Costco stores all over America are staying on top of COVID-19 precautions. Employees and customers are required to face masks and sanitization will be a top priority.

The new Costco is also in a busy part of Joliet, right down the road from the Louis Joliet Mall on Route 30. Construction of the building was so large, in fact, that a new traffic light was put up to manage traffic around the construction easier.

Costco has already been signing locals up with memberships in preparation of the grand opening. Memberships are required to be able to shop in the store and they cost $60 annually. Somodi ensures a smooth first day of operation, as he says parking won’t be an issue, since the parking lot is “huge”,  like it has been in some Chicago locations.

New Costco hours are as follows: Monday - Friday 10:30am to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 6pm, and Sunday 10am to 6pm.

First Lion Electric School Bus in Joliet

Noëllie Inard Credit: www.chicagotribune.com  On Wednesday, November 2nd, Lion Electric announced the end of the production of its first LionC zero-emission electric school bus at its Joliet factory. In May 2021, Lion Electric, a Canadian-based manufacturer of commercial vehicles, selected Joliet to hold its future US manufactory due to a growing demand for electric school buses in the United States. Lion Electric positioned itself to help school districts with the transition to electric buses with the help of the EPA Clean Bus Program which funded the project with $5 billion. The EPA Clean Bus Program is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a law that the Congress recently passed under President Joe Biden and which aimed to invest “ in [the] nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness,” according to the White House. The company’s efforts have paid off since they have now 700 electric vehicles on the road.       Lion Electric promised on January 2022...
