Shoppers in the Joliet area can expect a new place to shop soon, as a Joliet Costco location opens up this week. It is located at The Boulevard at Route 30. The new store officially opens at 8am on Wednesday November 11.

The store is likely to draw customers from all around the area and neighboring cities, such as Plainfield, Crest Hill, Channahon, Minooka, Morris, and Coal City. Although the grand opening is expected to be busy and crowded, Dave Somodi, membership manager for the new location, says Costco stores all over America are staying on top of COVID-19 precautions. Employees and customers are required to face masks and sanitization will be a top priority.

The new Costco is also in a busy part of Joliet, right down the road from the Louis Joliet Mall on Route 30. Construction of the building was so large, in fact, that a new traffic light was put up to manage traffic around the construction easier.

Costco has already been signing locals up with memberships in preparation of the grand opening. Memberships are required to be able to shop in the store and they cost $60 annually. Somodi ensures a smooth first day of operation, as he says parking won’t be an issue, since the parking lot is “huge”,  like it has been in some Chicago locations.

New Costco hours are as follows: Monday - Friday 10:30am to 8:30pm, Saturday 9:30am to 6pm, and Sunday 10am to 6pm.

Doubled Tax Increases!?

Earlier this year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed against the gas tax increase by placing a 6 month hold on the scheduled hike. His goal was to relieve Illinois families from further financial stress. As published by My State Line reporter, John Clark, “Pritzker hoped that the initiative might ease the effects of inflation on residents.” Initially postponed to January 1 of this year, a bill coming from Springfield has proposed that the hike in gas tax be pushed back an additional 6 months.  Across the country, gas prices are decreasing; but Illinois remains number two in terms of how much its residents have to pay to fill up their tanks. With California in the lead, Illinois’ prices show no real stopping point. Without taking the increases into consideration, Illinois still comes in with second place for highest gas taxing. Illinois Policy’s assistant editor, Dylan Sharkey, reported that “gas tax hikes disproportionately hurt lower-income residents, who give up a larger percent...
