23-year-old Reno Giacomo of Channahon lead Joliet Police officers on multiple chases in the very early morning of Friday October 23, 2020. Giacomo allegedly came very close to hitting one of several officers that was parked in the street in order to block traffic on Essington Road due to a previous accident. The suspect fled the scene and led police on not one, but two high-speed chases.
According to police reports, “officers observed a vehicle being driven by a shirtless male, later identified as Giacomo, northbound on Essington Road approaching the scene of a prior traffic collision,” This is where Giacomo allegedly decided to go around the parked police cars, with their lights flashing, before almost running down an officer that was outside of his vehicle.
The police report goes on to detail, “officers observed that it appeared that Giacomo appeared to be intoxicated. Officers ordered Giacomo out of the car at which time he smiled at the officers and fled in the vehicle from the scene at a high rate of speed.” The Joliet police eventually called off their high-speed pursuit, due to safety reasons, as Giacomo was driving west along Caton Farm Road.
Minutes after seemingly escaping, Giacomo was spotted again by the Joliet officers near Caton Farm and Arbeiter Roads. On the second high-speed chase Giacomo very nearly struck another Joliet Police vehicle while he continued to flee southbound along Ridge Road from Caton Farm Road in the northbound lane, the police report shows.
According to the police report “Officers lost sight of Giacomo’s vehicle [again] for a short period of time, but then located Giacomo and his vehicle crashed in a ditch near Jones Road and Arbeiter Road. Giacomo was then taken into custody without incident and transported to the Joliet Police Department,”.
By Friday night Giacomo was out of jail after posting ten percent of his $50,000 bail. Giacomo faces aggravated DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer, aggravated assault, and obstructing a peace officer charges among multiple traffic violations.
