Delivery Driver Carjacked in Joliet, 3 Teens Arrested

Three suspects have been arrested after an alleged carjacking in Joliet on November 18, 2020. Rickie Jones (a nineteen-year-old from Chicago), Cornelius Aaron (another nineteen-year-old from Chicago), and a third suspect (an unnamed fifteen-year-old from Chicago) were all taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery and vehicular hijacking after getting caught the same day.

According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded to a potential robbery at the 1400 block of Mason Avenue. Once on the scene, the responding officers learned that a food delivery driver had been robbed at gunpoint. The victim told officers that she completed a delivery and was walking back to her car when she was approached by three people with guns. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demander her belongings along with her car.

After a description was relayed of the potential suspects and the vehicle stolen, an Illinois State Police trooper had pulled over and detained some suspicious suspects. The trooper pulled the vehicle over to conduct a routine traffic stop near Interstate 80 and Francis Road and found the hijacking suspects.

The Joliet Police reported finding three black BB guns inside the stolen vehicle while taking the suspects into custody. All of the suspects were taken to the Joliet Police department, where they were interviewed and gave statements involving themselves or each other in the robbery and carjacking.

Joliet Police Chief Al Roechner gave a statement saying, “these acts of senseless violence will not be tolerated in the city of Joliet. This is just another example of the relentless determination of the members of the Joliet Police Department. I wish to thank our law enforcement partners, especially the Illinois State Police, for their vigilance and cooperation that was vital in the arrest of these three offenders.”

Doubled Tax Increases!?

Earlier this year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed against the gas tax increase by placing a 6 month hold on the scheduled hike. His goal was to relieve Illinois families from further financial stress. As published by My State Line reporter, John Clark, “Pritzker hoped that the initiative might ease the effects of inflation on residents.” Initially postponed to January 1 of this year, a bill coming from Springfield has proposed that the hike in gas tax be pushed back an additional 6 months.  Across the country, gas prices are decreasing; but Illinois remains number two in terms of how much its residents have to pay to fill up their tanks. With California in the lead, Illinois’ prices show no real stopping point. Without taking the increases into consideration, Illinois still comes in with second place for highest gas taxing. Illinois Policy’s assistant editor, Dylan Sharkey, reported that “gas tax hikes disproportionately hurt lower-income residents, who give up a larger percent...
