Amy Coney Barrett has just been confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice and it has many women worrying about their reproductive rights. Barrett’s stance on abortion, per her 1998 Notre Dame Law School article, is that “abortion is always immoral.” Barrett may not have ruled on an abortion case herself, but she has voted to revisit abortion opposition rulings, has signed her name on anti-abortion advertisements in 2006, and has the support of anti-abortion groups. This might have some women worried. So, what can women do to try and keep their reproductive rights? Join the Satanic Temple.

The Satanic Temple, founded in 2013 by Lucien Greaves and Malcolm Jarry, is a nontheistic religious group based in the United States. They have 21 chapters in the US, two in Canada, and one in the United Kingdom. Their mission is to encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits. The Satanic Temple has, in the past, confronted hate groups, fought for equal representation when religious installments are places on public property, and provided religious exemption and legal protection against laws that unscientifically restrict women’s reproductive rights.

While the closest Satanic Temple to Illinois is in Indiana, those who wish to join the temple can do so online. To become a member one can visit their website, www.thesatanictemple.com, and click on the join tab in the upper right-hand corner. This link will take you to another page that allows you to fill out a membership form. Joining the Satanic Temple is free, but for $25 you can grab yourself a personalized membership card and certificate. There are several options of designs for the card and certificate to choose from and shipping generally takes 3 to 5 business days. No need to sell your soul to the devil.

So how does this help protect your womanly reproductive rights? The Satanic Temple claims that first trimester abortions are religious for its members. This makes first trimester abortions protected by the State Religious Freedom Restoration Acts (RFRA), which prohibits the government from interfering with a person’s free exercise of religion. Illinois is one of 21 states that have enacted a version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.

Noëllie Inard Credit: www.chicagotribune.com  On Wednesday, November 2nd, Lion Electric announced the end of the production of its first LionC zero-emission electric school bus at its Joliet factory. In May 2021, Lion Electric, a Canadian-based manufacturer of commercial vehicles, selected Joliet to hold its future US manufactory due to a growing demand for electric school buses in the United States. Lion Electric positioned itself to help school districts with the transition to electric buses with the help of the EPA Clean Bus Program which funded the project with $5 billion. The EPA Clean Bus Program is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, a law that the Congress recently passed under President Joe Biden and which aimed to invest “ in [the] nation’s infrastructure and competitiveness,” according to the White House. The company’s efforts have paid off since they have now 700 electric vehicles on the road.       Lion Electric promised on January 2022...
