Out of the eight Vote-By-Mail ballot drop boxes across Will County, only one will remain open on Election Day. The ballot drop box outside of the Will County Clerk’s Office located at 302 N. Chicago Street in downtown Joliet will remain open on November 3, and close promptly at 7 p.m. along with all polling places.

The seven boxes that will close are located inside local libraries and inside Governors State University. Since several of the libraries will be closed on Election Day and officials want to secure ballot collection points in an orderly fashion, the Will County Clerk’s Office will close these drop boxes starting in the late afternoon on November 2.

Election Judges representing both political parties will begin closing library and university Vote-By-Mail drop boxes according to the following schedule on November 2:

Wilmington Public Library – 4:30 p.m.

Plainfield Public Library – 4:30 p.m.

Naperville 95th Street Library – 5:15 p.m.

Governors State University – 5:30 p.m.

Frankfort Public Library – 6 p.m.

Fountaindale Public Library – 6 p.m.

White Oak Library – 6:45 p.m.

The closing times listed above are approximate, but no ballot drop box will be closed earlier than the times listed.

These drop boxes have been open since September 24 of this year, and were strategically placed throughout Will County in order to serve voters in every region.

Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry commissioned these drop boxes where voters could turn in their completed Vote-By-Mail envelopes. “The drop boxes offer another way to submit a completed Vote-By-Mail packet for anyone who has concerns about mail delivery,” Ferry said in a statement. “These public places have either evening or weekend hours that provide convenient drop off times for voters. Locating boxes inside our local public libraries or our universities also will increase security surrounding our ballots.”

Noëllie Inard Credit: www.criticalgrind.com  On Thursday, November 10th, a new cafe named the Critical Grind Board Game Café opened in Shorewood, Illinois. This coffee shop is a little different from cafes already opened in the Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood areas. Situated on 852 Sharp Drive in the Sharp Center off Black Road near Route 59 in Shorewood, the coffee shop, previously owned by a kickboxing studio, is close to the Bliss Hair Studio. The owners, Dana Buxbaum and her husband Shaun Tenant, mixed what they loved to create their idea of the perfect coffee shop. “I always wanted a coffee shop,” said Dana Buxbaum, “My husband and I combined our love of gaming with my vision of the coffee shop.” The coffee shop has made available bookshelves full of games such as Clue, The Serial Killer Trivia Game, Sorry, Dragoon and many more. In an interview with Patch editor, Buxbaum stated that they have “[...] about 400 games in [their] library” with family-friendly and inclusive...

Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.
