New Lenox Police Chief Retiring

By John Raspante

New Lenox Police Chief April DiSandro will make her final call on Friday morning as she retires from the New Lenox Police Department.

DiSandro was recognized at a village board meeting on Monday, October 26 for her years of service. “She is a lifelong resident and has given to this community in more ways than being a police officer,” Mayor Tim Baldermann said on her behalf. “April is somebody, who truly, despite being in a difficult profession, has always been compassionate with those she works with and even those she didn’t know. She is an excellent role model for those in law enforcement and a role model for human decency.”

Before becoming police chief, DiSandro had been with the New Lenox police since 1990. She started out as a patrol officer before working her way up through the department. She worked every position and was deputy police chief for 11 years.

Former Police Chief Bob Sterba retired in April 2020, with DiSandro taking over for six months before her own retirement. “I am just thrilled to have come to this point in my career,” she said when being sworn in as new police chief. “I don’t know what I’m going to do without [Sterba]. I’m going to miss him, and I just hope I can do a fraction of the job that he’s done.”

Now, six months later, DiSandro is leaving the force and Mayor Baldermann went on to say that she has made the department better, and the village is a safer, kinder and more compassionate place because of her.

DiSandro spoke during the board meeting and thanked her family for supporting her throughout her long career and the last six months as chief. “I don’t even have words after that,” she said. “You have always believed in me and supported me, and I loved being a police officer and I think I always will be. It was an honor to serve here because I grew up here, and work with all the citizens.”

This coffee shop is a little different from cafes already opened in the Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood areas. Situated on 852 Sharp Drive in the Sharp Center off Black Road near Route 59 in Shorewood, the coffee shop, previously owned by a kickboxing studio, is close to the Bliss Hair Studio. The owners, Dana Buxbaum and her husband Shaun Tenant, mixed what they loved to create their idea of the perfect coffee shop. “I always wanted a coffee shop,” said Dana Buxbaum, “My husband and I combined our love of gaming with my vision of the coffee shop.” The coffee shop has made available bookshelves full of games such as Clue, The Serial Killer Trivia Game, Sorry, Dragoon and many more. In an interview with Patch editor, Buxbaum stated that they have “[...] about 400 games in [their] library” with family-friendly and inclusive...
Rory Richards Facebook Certain Fields From Profile Bios, Including “Religious Views”; Does Not Say Why Facebook has announced plans to remove certain fields from profile bios. Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.
