Joliet Man Leads Police on a High-Speed Chase

32-year-old Christopher McCullum, who’s mugshot is featured above via the Jolie Police Department, lead police on a high-speed chase around Joliet’s west side on September 17, 2020. McCullum remains in custody and was charged with possession of controlled substances, aggravated fleeing a peace officer, reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license after finally being caught once his vehicle was disabled.

According to police reports, an officer saw McCullum commit a traffic violation around 10:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Oneida Street, but when the officer attempted to pull McCullum over, he failed to stop and fled from the officers at a high rate of speed. McCullum finally came to a stop, but not by choice. The suspect’s vehicle struck the raised center median in the street near the area of Center and Pleasant, which disabled the car.

The police report goes on to show that investigators later located a “plastic bag of pills”. The police report claims that the plastic bag was found near McCullum’s vehicle, so it is believed to have been discarded following or during the crash. The pills were analyzed by the department and later tested positive to be Ecstasy.

After being taken to the Joliet Police Station downtown McCullum was claiming that he had suffered some sort of injury during the accident and was consequently transported to AMITA Healthy Saint Joseph’s Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. The following day, Friday September 14, 2020, McCullum was transported to the Will County Jail around 4 p.m. after he was treated and released from the hospital.

As of September 20, 2020 McCullum remains in the Will County Jail unable to post ten percent of his $50,000 bail.

Doubled Tax Increases!?

Earlier this year, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pushed against the gas tax increase by placing a 6 month hold on the scheduled hike. His goal was to relieve Illinois families from further financial stress. As published by My State Line reporter, John Clark, “Pritzker hoped that the initiative might ease the effects of inflation on residents.” Initially postponed to January 1 of this year, a bill coming from Springfield has proposed that the hike in gas tax be pushed back an additional 6 months.  Across the country, gas prices are decreasing; but Illinois remains number two in terms of how much its residents have to pay to fill up their tanks. With California in the lead, Illinois’ prices show no real stopping point. Without taking the increases into consideration, Illinois still comes in with second place for highest gas taxing. Illinois Policy’s assistant editor, Dylan Sharkey, reported that “gas tax hikes disproportionately hurt lower-income residents, who give up a larger percent...
