College Football Lives On In Dream Season

In August 2020, the Big Ten Conference announced that they are taking a step back from sports this fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They stated that they would continue to work with medical experts in the event that anything changed in regards to the outbreak.

Although University of Wisconsin Madison, a member of the Conference, released a statement supporting the decision, they have found a way for Badger fans to enjoy college football this year without the risk.

UW Madison revealed their project, titled the "Dream Season," early last week. According to wiscnews.com, it is a "partnership with Big Ten Network and American Family Insurance to bring a broadcast treatment to a Saturday at Camp Randall."

The broadcast will include: performances from the UW marching band, the notorious Jump Around, and a smattering of other UW staples, all while watching "some of the best games in Badger history" states wiscnews.com.

UW Madison has decided to focus on the last 30 years of Badger history and plans to showcase memorable moments and players. The college has avoided including overplayed games in order to keep the broadcast fresh and exciting. UW has also included present-day commentary.

According to Brian Lucas, UW's director of football brand communications, "Our presentation of the games will be very unique...we've been able to add in some interviews with players and coaches that took part in the game, overlaying it in parts."

The "Dream Season" may not be the only college football we see this year. Wiscnews.com explains:

A Big Ten Conference medical subcommittee is set to present new testing programs and possibilities to a group of eight conference chancellors and presidents. If that subcommittee of the Big Ten Committee of Presidents/Chancellors likes what they hear, they could call a meeting of the full committee and ask for a revote on the conference's decision to nix the fall football season.

However, this decision seems very unlikely due to the rise in COVID-19 cases on Big Ten campuses. UW has stated that if the committee does revote, they will have to decide what they will do with the "Dream Season."

The "Dream Season" will begin Sept. 19 and run through Dec. 5. Games will be announced each Monday and wiscnews.com states "UW has also created a second-screen experience with more content and chances for viewers to win prizes."

Situated on 852 Sharp Drive in the Sharp Center off Black Road near Route 59 in Shorewood, the coffee shop, previously owned by a kickboxing studio, is close to the Bliss Hair Studio. The owners, Dana Buxbaum and her husband Shaun Tenant, mixed what they loved to create their idea of the perfect coffee shop. “I always wanted a coffee shop,” said Dana Buxbaum, “My husband and I combined our love of gaming with my vision of the coffee shop.” The coffee shop has made available bookshelves full of games such as Clue, The Serial Killer Trivia Game, Sorry, Dragoon and many more. In an interview with Patch editor, Buxbaum stated that they have “[...] about 400 games in [their] library” with family-friendly and inclusive...

Starting on December 1, users will no longer be presented with an option to list their sexual orientation, their political views, their address, or their religious views on their personal profiles. Facebook did not provide an explanation for this decision. The decision was announced one week after Meta, the parent company of Facebook, fired 11,000 employees, 13% of its total workforce; whether or not these two events are correlated, however, remains unclear.
