Darren Bailey Makes Religious Issues A Cornerstone of His Campaign
November 8th is the last day to vote in the 2022 midterm elections in Illinois. Challenger Darren Bailey hopes to win.
As a member of the Fellowship of Christian Farmers and the founder of the Full Armor Christian Academy K-12 private school, Darren Bailey is leaning heavily on his religious background to gain support among evangelists. When asked about his stance on abortion, Darren Bailey refused to answer whether he would support exceptions for rape and incest. However, on at least one occasion, he has compared abortion to the Holocaust. Popular though it may be within his voter base, such a hardline stance against abortion rights does not play well with the Illinois electorate as a whole, according to polling. According to a poll by Public Policy Voting conducted on October 10-11, 2022, only 10% of Illinois residents believe that “abortion should be illegal in all cases”.
Whether Darren Bailey or incumbent J. B. Pritzker will ultimately win the election for Illinois governor remains to be seen, but one thing is clear; Bailey’s hardline religious stance is measurably unpopular with Illinois voters, and that will likely reflect in the polls.
